Bored? Things have little meaning and fulfillment?
We all have experienced that occasional psychological state when we feel we have nothing to do, are not interested in our surroundings, or feel that things are dull and tedious. Being bored doesn’t feel good at all. It can stall and make you waste time. What’s more, it opens the door to a flood of other negative stuff, like self-doubt and loneliness, which only further exacerbates the situation.
Boredom, however, is a choice. It’s something you can change. The next time you feel bored, put your precious time to good use by making an active choice to re-channel those stalled inward negative thoughts and emotions into positive outwardly focused actions. Volunteer at a food pantry, put together care packages with toiletries for the homeless. Pull out those no longer worn clothes from your closet and donate them to a homeless shelter. Activities like these help us feel that what we do has a greater purpose.
