The Corporation for National and Community Service reported that “The United States is benefiting from the generosity driven by millions of people who freely volunteer their time and efforts to improve conditions in their communities.”
Volunteers are the heart of America, essential to our nation's social and economic well-being. They do hard but important work: rebuilding communities after disasters, teaching kids to read and helping them to stay in school, bringing life back to forgotten neighborhoods, connecting veterans to services, and so much more.
Your time is one of the most valuable resources you can provide. When volunteers are not available, organizations have to pay someone, which in turn, takes funding away from helping people get back on their feet.
With our busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. The right match can help you to find friends, connect with the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career.
Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. Giving in even simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and happiness.
ACCOLADE Celebrations understands the need for and importance of setting special time aside to recognize and show appreciation for the good things people do, to include volunteers who donate their time and efforts to improve situations in their communities. ACCOLADE Celebrations has the authority as an approved Certifying Organization, to give out the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to qualified volunteers.
So, get out there and volunteer. There are lots of opportunities. Contact me at ACCOLADE Celebrations for our own volunteer opportunities and details for how to apply for a PVSA.
